Wharf Rat Sculpture- 2007
What began as a weather vane, this rat now dominates this harbor-front home on Cape Ann. This couple came to me with every intention of building a weather vane. Then they told me that their water-front home has become somewhat of a club house for their fellow boating friends. They all “tie up” together in front of this house to watch the sunsets and they call themselves the Wharf Rats. Every time we discussed how big the rat should be, it got bigger. Eventually I said, “Maybe you should put a big rat up there and skip the weathervane all together”. Finally we all agreed.
